Dr. Ratan Lal retrospects his own idea on the possibility of printing Ambedkar’s picture on Indian currency notes and its possible remarkable outcomes by re-reading an article on this idea by Ravish Kumar, a renowned Indian Journalist, published in a magazine in 2007.
Dr. B R Ambedkar stands for a crucial socio-political vision for India and the world. While Gandhi and his vision(s) have been promoted in every possible way by the Indian nationalists, Ambedkar and his ideology is still not commonly discussed in Indian households, especially the upper caste families. Printing Ambedkar’s picture on Indian currency note will not only reinforce his ideology but will also bring the respect that he deserves. Circulation of notes with Ambedkar’s picture can also break the reluctance to accept and admire Ambedkar and his vision. Dr. Lal retrospectively reads this article by Ravish Kumar and analyses whether this idea still holds relevance after more than a decade when he himself has evolved through many ideological paths.
